ShelterBox at the 2013 Boy Scout Jamboree

International disaster relief charity, ShelterBox, has arrived at the 2013 Boy Scout Jamboree along with nearly 40,000 other attendees from across the nation. ShelterBox is staffing an exhibit and geoquiz game in the Action Point at Summit Center and is educating Scouts about disaster relief and how they may be able to assist in a disaster in their communities.

Since 2011, ShelterBox has been a partner of the Boy Scouts of America, one of the nation's largest youth organizations. The partnership's focus is to provide educational resources and service project ideas for troops and councils. ShelterBox also enjoys partnerships with the Scouts in the UK and France.

Alan Monroe, director of volunteer programs at ShelterBox USA, said, "It has been so amazing to be a part of the Jamboree. Scouts have had a blast participating in our geoquiz where they learn how scouts around the world have helped provide ShelterBox assistance to those in need."

ShelterBox is launching a new program at the Jamboree, the ShelterBox Scout Corps, a group for dedicated scouts interested in disaster relief. The Scout Corps members receive project ideas, action-learning activities and may have the opportunity to assist on a future deployment in their region.

"This is an exciting time for our partnership," said Monroe. "We look forward to helping Scouts to become aware of natural and other disasters and to help them to understand how they can help their communities through awareness and service projects."
